Remarkable Results From New Drug
i PUiiRr3R AL FEVER LOSSES GREATLY REDUCED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright. Received Friday, 7.30 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 29. In connection with Sir E. G. G. Graham-Lit tie’s statement in the Commons that mortality in cases of puerperal fever treated with a new drug in Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, London, had decreased from 22 to two per cent., Sir Graham-Little disclosed in an interview that the new drug was named sulphonamide. It was only revealed to the London Pathological Society a fortnight ago and is regarded as a great advance in the science of drugs as it is simpler in constitution, possessing less toxicity than many earlier drugs recommended for a similar purpose. There is also the tremendous advantage that it could best be administered by the mouth. It is not a secret formula or patent, but is at the disposal of the medical profession. It is understood part of the work on the discovery of the drug was done in England.
