Driving Test for Those Intoxicated
DOCTOR’S SUGGESTION Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. “As far as we dotcors are concerneu, it would be a good thing towards determining a man's fitness to drive n in doubuui cases of intoxication the suspected person should be allowed to drive his car,’’ said Dr. A. A. 'i’ennent. when giving evidence as a witness m the Magistrate’s Court to-day before Mr. J. M. Luxford, W.M., in a case m which William Henry Solomon, a taxi proprietor, aged 49, was charged with being found intoxicated in charge of a motor-car in Wakefield street on tho night of January 15. Tho Magistrate: it appears to be the only acid test. There would be no danger, because the driving would be done under supervision. Dr. Tennent: Doctors would be grateful for this opportunity. The Magistrate: Of course, where a case is truly borderline, the verdict must be in the defendant’s favour. After tho hearing of evidence t>a both sides, the Magistrate dismissed the case, saying that there was a doubt.
