Mr J. Garde Grimsliaw has been appointed adjudicator for elocution classes at the forthcoming Wellington Eisteddfod to bo held in May next.
Friends of Mr. W. V. Kingsbeer, ui* Palmerston North, -who was obliged to visit America for health reasons, will be pleased to learn that he is showing considerable improvement.
Hon. W. E. Barnard, {Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Mr. ri. J. Bennett, of Palmerston North, who are cycling from Auckland to Napier, expect to reach their destination to-day. They have cycled on the principle of three days’ riding and one day’s rest.
Mr Michael Head, examiner in New Zealand this year for the Associated Board of the Royal {Schools of Music, whose visit to Palmerston North was an inspiration to the musical life of the city, left for England this week by the Niagara.
The Minister of Agriculture an nounced in the House of Commune, states a British Official Wireless message, that Lord Bingley had consented to be nominated as the representative of the United Kingdom producers on the International Beef Conference and Empire Beef Council.
Formerly a leading x>ass singer and elocutionist, Mr William Farquhar Young died yesterday in Christchurch. He was known throughout the Dominion for his performances in Scottish and Irish concerts and until recently sang and spoke over the air. He was recognised as having —one of the finest bass voices of his time and refused mauy offers to join opera companies and go abroad. He was for many years in the Post and Telegraph service and was first president of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association. He was mainly responsible for the establishment of a superannuation system for the Post and Telegraph Department.
