Feilding Stock Sale

HEAVY OFFERING OF STORE SHEEP. MARKET GENERALLY FIRM. Close upon 29,000 sheep were yarded for the stock sale at Feilding yesterday, when the market was generally firm iu all departments. The sale of sheep opened with the market inclined to drag slightly, but as the selling proceeded values firmed and late rates were fully maintained with the business generally in favour of the vendors. Interest mainly centred upon the large offering of store lambs, the condition of which varied considerably and for the best lines bidding was keen and animated. The best of the ewe lamb*, a line of 174 from Massey College, made 32s 2d, while Colyton-bred wether lambs made to 22s 9d. The first of the breeding ewes came forward, mixed ages making to 30s, while a straight line of four-tooths realised 3d less. An entry of 6*yr. ewes made 22». Fat and forward station cattle, com prising special entries on account of N. J. Short and the Short Estate, made ill 15s and £ll 2s respectively. There was a small offering of station bred cattle, A.A. steers realising £7 and S.H. steers £6 17s. A few of the pens were passed as the bidding was short of the vendors' reserves. Dairy stock were in short supply and the quality of the stock was not of the best.
