Takapuna Meeting Opens To-day
FIELDS AND PROSPECTS. WIN-AND-PLACE BETTING. The Takapuna Jockey Club’s summer meeting opens to-day and concludes tomorrow. The Ellerslie course is reported to be in first-class order and with good fields carded the racing promises to be interesting. The betting will be conducted under the win and place system. The principal event on to-day’s programme is the Takapuna Cup over a mile and a-quarter. Mazir is topweignt and he is reported to have been working satisfactorily. Dark Shadow is next and, a winner of the Waikato and Te Awamutu Cups, he should be among the fancied ones to-day. Con Fuoco is reported to have been unlucky in the Goldfields Cup at Thames, but the pick of the others appears to be Shy, who finished in second place behind Martara at Trentham. Horses likely to be in demand to-day Orewa Hurdles: High Quality, Tudor. Trial Stakes: Survoy, Ngakaru, Salva. Ferry Handicap: Square Acre, Fleetwind, Fox Moth. Takapuna Cup: Shy, Dark Shadow, Mazir. Calliope Handicap: Dragon Moth, Bachelor King, Nuclei. Wynyard Plate: Kilonsoa, Quadroon, Sergia. Zealandia Handicap: Sweet Rose, Galilee, Round Up. Rangitoto Hack: Winlona, Respectful, Vera Acre.
