Beau Gallantc Beats Court Anna. Court Anna carried £4 10s more than Beau Gallunte in tho Westhiere Hack Hurdles, but the topweight won with ease. Royal Routine went out to make the pace but ran down his fences a good deal. He was followed at tho stand hurdle by Court Arma and Beau Gallante, with Just An Idea four lengths further back. Running down the back Royal Routine was nearly off the course and Beau Gallante ran up to the lead with him, being t'ollow'ed closely by Court Arma. Royal Routine dropped out of the picture at the hurdle by the three furlongs and Reau Gallante led Court Arma to the last obstacle, coming on to win comfortably by three-quarters of a length. Ten lengths back was Just An Idea, just ahead of Royal Routine, Kitty Quinn being tailed off. Aiwai Wins Well. Aiwai was backed down to a short price for the Juvenile Handicap and duly won from the second favourite, Scarf Dance. Aiwai was first to move out ahead Scarf Dance, Gaily and Fafner, but Airini then ran to the front.and piloted Aiwai and Scarf Dance past tho halfmile, with a gap back to Gaily and Amatory. On the home-turn Airini was two lengths ahead of Aiwai, with Gaily and Scarf Dance just behind them and Fafner following. Once in line for the judge, Ahvai assumed command and held off Scarf Dance’s challenge to win by three-quarters erf a length. Gaily finished fast into third place, half a length away, and then came Airini, Fafner and Amatory.

Te Broney Upsets Calculations. Kia Tere and People’s Idol were best backed in the Kai Iwi Maiden, but To Broney sprung a mild surprise. Koura Rua dwelt and Parakino, All Happiness, To Broney and Black Pox led out from People’s Idol and Kia Tere. All Happiness ran into the lead after going a furlong, but Te Broney moved up on the rails crossing tho top and led into the straight from Parakino, Kia Tere and Black Fox. The last-named failed to get an opening on the fence over tho final stages, Te Broney holding on to win by half a length from Kia Tere, who beat Parakino by a head for second place. Three lengths back was Black Fox, fourth, and then came Koura Rua and People’s Idol. Taitoni Just Beats International. The Victory Hack Handicap was an even betting race, with Taitoru a little better backed than Red Sand, Airing and Internationa], and the favourite just won. Missal jumped sideways at barrierrise and Kia Ora went out ahead of Airing, Reipar, Taitoru, Blue Mauritius au- International, but running for the back stretch Taitoru went into the lead, followed by Blue Mauritius, Kia Ora, Airing, Reipar, Red Sand and International. Taitoni was still clear into the straight, with Bluo Mauritius, Reipar, International, Kia Ora, Airing and Red Sand nearest of the others. In the run Rome Taitoru held his own to win by a head from the fast-finishing International, with Airing two lengths back, just a head in front of fcieipar and Corowa. There was a gap back to Red Sand and Blue Mauritius. Airing’s jockey failed by 21bs. to make the weight, the horse being disqualified and Reipar placed third. Good Effort by Hatuma. Great Hope was twice as well backed as Cloudy Bay in the Tayforth Hack, but they finished in the minor positions, Hatuma, and Waipiro returning the dividends. After one false start when the tapes failed to go up, Etiquette went out in front of Hatuma, Great Hope, Mazzini and Waipiro. Half a mile from home Mazzini joined Etiquette, followed by Great Hope and Hatuma, with Waipiro next. Hatuma came round the home turn with Etiquette as Mazzini dropped right out of the picture, and next were Great Hope, Waipiro and Cloudy Bay. Over the final stages Hatuma asserted his claim and won by half a neck from Waipiro. Cloudy Bay was three-quar-ters of a length back, third, and Great Hope was fourth. Etiquette, Nightlass and Mazzini was the order of the others. Lavina Scores in Sprint. Royal Secret was preferred to Lavina in the Flying Handicap, but they finished in the reverse order. Lavina moved out first ahead of Symcony, Pin Money and Royal Secret with Black Friar last, but Symcony ran to the front after a furlong and piloted Lavina, Pin Money and Royal Secret past the half-mile. Symcony and Lavina were four lengths ahead of Pin Money and Ned Cuttle on the home turn, but once straightened up, Lavina ran past the leader and scored with ease by three lengths. Symcony stopped

badly and Royal Secret got into second place, a length and a-half ahead of Ned Cuttle, with Pin Money fourth and Symcony next to finish. Cup Winner Prom Hastings. One Whetu carried nearly £l5O more than Grand Jury in the Wanganui Cup, but two little-fancied candidates in Master Cyklon and Geitel shared the dividends. Master Cyklon led Blue Garter, Refresher, Hunting Queen, Davistock and Grand Jury up: the straight, but Bluo Garter was just in front as they went out of the straight and was two lengths clear;Of Master Cyklon, Hunting Queen, Refresher, Grand Jury, Geitel and Davistock, with Entail' last as they passed the six furlongs. Grand Jury went up to Blue Garter at the half-mile and they woro followed across tho top by Master Cyklon, Hunting Queen and One Whetu. The leaders retired in the straight and Master Cyklon came away to win by a length and a-half from Geitel, who was two lengths ahead of Ono Whetu. Blue Garter was a close (Continued on Page 5.)
