Appeal for Government Assistance
TO HELP FRUITGROWERS PAY BIGGER WAGES. (■Special to “Times”) HASTINGS, Last Night. Following on the Government deciding to fix the Government guarantee on export fruit at 10/6 a, case, the New Zealand Fruit Control Board has forwarded the following resolution fo the Government: “That tho Government b© thanked for the guarantee of 10/5 per case for export fruit. “That in connection with the guarantee for future years the Government be asked to set up a small committee with which the Board will bo glad to bo co-opted for the purpose of reaching finality on the average cost of production.
“That the scalo of wages and the conditions relating thereto, associated with tho 1937 guarantee, the board he given an opportunity of conferring with the Minister before theee are Gazetted.“Further, that th© Government be! advised that the local market is ly in need of assistance as growers for this market will be paying the increased wages in incurring the generally increased costs.’*
