At the final session of the University Senate in Auckland on Tuesday the Macmillan Brown prize for literature was awarded jointly to Miss Kathleen Margaret Johnstone, of Victoria College, and Miss Winnie McQuilkan, of Otago. On the subject, “Passion for Immortality, ’ 9 both submitted verse. The Bowen Brize was awarded to Mr W. J. Gardney, of Christchurch, the subject being an essay on the Elizabethan Age as a prelude to colonisation.
