Prime Wethers Easier On Westfield Market
AUCKLAND, Jan. 26. The advanced beef values of a week ago were easily maintained at Westfield to-day. Steers were scarce and the quality fair, all grades selling readily. Cows were numerous, but mostly plain types were offered, although prices held. Extra choice os made 34/- per 1001 b. f choice and prime 30/- to 33/-; ordinary and plain 27/to 29/-; prime cow and heifer, 28/- to 31/-; ordinary 18/- to 27/-; extra heavy prime steers, {£ll3 to £l3 5/-; heavy, £l2 to £l2 17/6; medium, £ll to £ll 17/6; light, £9 10/- to £9 15/-; extra heavy cows and heifers £9 10/to £lO 17/6; heavy, £8 to £9 o/-; £6 10/- to £7 17/6 ; light. £5 to £6 17/ 6 j unfinished, £3 5/- to £5 5/-. A larger entry of sheep included many lines of prime wethers, which were slightly easier. Ewes were steady at late quotations and an average entry of fair quality lambs sold at firm rates, good grazing types being I ec-n----iy sought to a guinea. Extra heavy wethers made 29/6 to 31/-; heavy 23.'to 29/3; medium 26/- to 27/6; 1 ght, 24/- to 26/-; unfinished, 20/- to 24/-; extra heavy ewes 21/- to 22/9; heavy 19/0 to 21/-; lighter 18/- to 20/6; unfinished 4/- to 18/-; extra heavy lambs made from 27/- to 31/3; heavy 25/- to. 27/-; medium, 23/- to 24/9; light 21/to 23/6; unfinished, 12/- to 20/9. i The calf entry was again short and' the quality satisfactory. Bidding was brisk and, in some cases, values improved on the previous high quota-! tions. Runners made £2 10/- to £B,l heavy vealera £4 4/- to £5 5/-; raedi-, urn £3 8/- to £4 8/-; light £2 10/to £3 6/- ; smaller £2 to £2 10/-; unfinished and bucket-fed £1 4/- and £1 18/-; bobby and rough 5/- to 24/-. Pigs were less numerous than for a considerable period. The demand for all classes was firm and late lates were maintained. Choppers made £1 10/- to £3 9/-; heavy baconers £3 14/- to £3 16/-; medium £3 6/- to £3 10/-;. light £3 to £3 3/-; heavy porkers £2 13/- to £2 17/-; medium £2 8/- to £2 11/-; light, £2 to £2 5/-; small and unfinished £1 10/- to £1 17/-; stores £1 3/- to £1 9/-; slips 10/- to 21/-; weaners, 6/- to 17/-; baconers averaged 6d per lb. and porkers 6Jd.
