Tastes of Baroness Rothschild
Bareness Kitty, as her friends call Baroness Eugene do Rothschild, has a t'avourito reception, room at tho Castle Enzefeld (Lower Austria), writes a correspondent from Vienna. It is the one in which she entertains guests for tea, a round room, half walled by windows overlooking the park, one of Austria’s finest. Baron Rothschild's French chef combines tho best elements of French and Austrian cooking, and the cakes, sandwiches and biscuits with which ho has the Baroness’ round table in her round room covered at tea time, are mostly nativo delicacies.
The castle was built in 1125, and after being devastated by two Turkish sieges, and by an earthquake, Baron Nathaniel Rothschild rebuilt it in 1860, only a high tower and lower bulwark remaining of the original structure. There are 40 rooms in the castle, which houses a fine art collection. The furniture is the luxurious work of famous cabinetmakers of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. One painting, of Windsor Castle, is by an English artist named Richardson, and is dated 1834. There is good hunting around Enzesfeld, but for entertainment visits must bo made to Vienna or Baden. Ex-King Alfonso of Spain lived in Austria for some years after his abdication, and tho former King George V. of llanover and his son, the Duke of Cumberland, chose Austria for their exiled dwelling.
