Personal Mrs F. Hansen has returned from a holiday spent with relatives at Warkworth, .North Auckland. Mr Eric Dumbleton, of Auckland, was a recent guest of his parents. Mr and Mrs J. Dumbleton. Mr P. (Jordon, Miss Gordon and Mr P. O’Brian, of Auckland, are the guests of Mrs T. Priest, of Putara. Master G. Grant-Thomson and Miss B. Grant-Thomson have returned from a holiday spent at Hastings. Miss Margaret Holms, of Wellington, la a guest of Alias Nancy Drysdale. Miss Joan Payne, of Wellington, visited her parents during the recent week-end. Friends of Mrs Max Stewart will regret to learn that she is an inmate of a Palmerston North hospital. Mrs Clark, of Palmerston North, has returned home after spending a lengthy holiday with Mrs J. P. Petersen, of Atea. Mrs J. G. Butler is an inmate of tho Pahiatua Hospital. M.jw M. Considerable flooding has caused seriofis erosion in the Mangatainoka river, many farmers losing large areas of valuable land. Sporting activities have been at a standstill for some time. Owing to a stormy Anniversary Day, the A and B teams of the Nireaha Tennis Club had to postpone their matches with Hukanui teams. Ladder matches played recently resulted as follow: K. J. Lawrence beat B. Lozell B—6, and N. C. Petersen 6—22; E. M. Wright beat C. Hercock, 6—4; C. D. Goss beat C. Hansen G—o; W. Drysdale beat L. Hansen 6—3; Miss J. Goss lost to Mrs Lozell 3—G, and beat Aliss C. Davidson 6—2; Mrs Terry beat Miss A. Butler
G—o; Mrs llcrcock beat Aliss C. Davidson 6—5. Holders of the Aien's Buttons are B. Lozell and E. Al. Wright. Aliss J. Goss and Aliss B. Butler hold the Ladies' Buttons. The top positions on the ladder are at present occupied as follow: Ladies, Airs Lozell, Aliss J. Goss, Aliss B. Butler, Airs Hercock, Aliss E. Davidson and Mrs Terry; men, It. J. Lawrence, B. Lozell, N. C. Petersen, E. Ai. Wright, C. W. Hercock, and C. D. Goss. The Domain Board is making extensive improvements to the local hull. Extra dancing space Is being provided and the men’s dressing room is being enlarged. The hall is also being painted and should be in attractive shape for the big fixture at Easter time, owing to the precautions advised from official quarters re infantile paralysis, the re-opening of the Nireaha Bible Class has been postponed. Rifle Shooting A team from the Tararua Itifle Club recently journeyed to Featherston to flro a maten with that club for the Inter-Club shield. Tararua were successful in winning the match by 42 points. Shooting conditions were very bad, a strong wind blowing all day, with ram falling at tho 600 yards range. At this rnge Tararua showed a marked superiority and put up a great perlormance. . Following are the detailed scores, seven shots being lired at the 300, 60U. and OUO yards ranges. Tai-arua: J. P. Watson 32, 34, JO—Bs; total 912. The flnal shoot was recently tired for the Hercock Aiemorial Cup. Th.s was won by Rifleman J. P. Petersen, after a shoot-oif with live other members. Petersen scortd a possible in the shout-off at 600 yardo. The club championship, conducted over this series of shoots, was won by Rifleman P. Berry with a score of 293 out of the possible 315. Rifleman J. p. Petersen was runner-up, with Rifleman 11. C. Rasmussen third. Following are the scores, seven shots being lired at the 3uo, 500, and 600 yard ranges, with a handicap limit of 99: P.
