Big Aviation Expansion
Increased Facilities at Wigram HOUSING FOR 80 MORE MEN. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Some idea of the extent to which the Government intends to expand the aviation arm of the defence system is given by the decision to add two new wings to the existing staff accommodation at the Wigram aerodrome. Plans are being prepared and tenders, it is expected, will t* called soon. The two new wings will house 80 single airmen and aircraftsmen. Already there is accommodation for 80 so that when completed the new buildings will bring the total available accommodation to 160, a big establishment even measured by overseas standards. It is believed all the plant at Wigram, including the offices, hangars ard repair facilities, will shortly be increased to an extent commensurate with the projected increase in accommodation for the personnel. For more than a year now there has been a steady development at Wigram but the latest proposal is taken to indicate a rapid acceleration of development there.
