“Manhattan Moon” Shines Over Broadway
RICARDO CORTEZ DEBONAIR IN ROMANTIC ROLE (Kosy: Screening To-day). Music, comedy and romance inter-mixed, to mi the interest in Universal’s * ‘ Manhattan Moon, ’' co-rea turing Ricardo Cortez and Dorothy Page, internationally known radio singer and actress. Ricardo Cortez, as Dau Moore, is a Broadway “big shot" who has risen to a position of eminence in the business world but who is not popular socially because of his East bide background. He forces Henry Mollison, as Reggie Van Dorset, a “blue book” memoer, who owes him money, to introduce him to the “four hundred"—but gives up his aspirations after meeting Dorothy Page, who is a concert singer. Dorothy Page is in a dual role, and is seen also as her “double" who is forced to go out with Cortez. This situation is the beginning of many complications, both laughable and romantc, for the “double" is in love with Regis Toomey, as a taxi driver. In making the picture, Universal has packed it with colourful backgrounds, including gay night clubs, theatres, Broadway, and luxurious apartments of the pent-house variety. The picture contains three songs, including two hit numbers, “My Other Me," and ‘‘First Kiss," sung by Miss Page. It was directed by Stuart Walker, and the cast includes Hugh O'Connell, Luis Alberni, Henry Armetta and Regis Toomey.
