Growth of Whakatane

IMPROVEMENTS TO WHARF. ERECTION OF NEW THEATRE. Per Press Association. WHAKATANE, Jan. 24. Good progress has been made with improvements to the new Whakatane Wharf extension. The contract price for the work is £2OOO. Evidence of tne necessity for these improvements was seen during the holidays, when congestion of goods occurred m the shed. In recent years Whakatane has outgrown nearly every public building. This is reflected in the improvements being made to the wharf and in the erection of a new theatre, which, it is antici pated, will be finished by the end of next month. The growth of building activity in Whakatane, especially in the erection of houses, has led the Borough Council to consider the imposition of stricter by-laws governing buildings and the drainage systems installed.
