Boy Falls From Cliff

REACHING FOR BIRD’S NEST. Pei Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 24. While playing ■with his two brothers: on the cliff eugo at Te Wau Point, Blockhouse Day, yesterday afternoon Duncan \\ eston, aged 8 years, a son of Air. K. Weston, oi : Taunton Terrace, over-balanced and fell 50ft. to the rucks uelow. Tne boy broke his right urni und leg and suffered severe Head injuries. His condition was described at the Auckland Hospital last night as According to one of his brothers, Duncan was straining upward to reach a bird’s nest in a tree on the cliff edge, 330 yards from his home. Ho was bumped by a large collie dog belonging to tne family and, losing his balance, disappeared over the cliff. His brothers turned and rau to their mother, flit uog following them. The injured lad was found lying on the rocks below the cliff by a Maori woman, who carried him round to the beach. There he was tended by City Council employees working in the vicinity and a sphut was placed on his leg. Dr. R. Warnock, of Avondale, gave him further treatment und a St. John ambulance was taken down on to the beach. The cliff is known as the Maori Look-out.
