Wool Cheques
FIRST SIX SALES £3,250,000 REALISED Woolgrowers in New Zealand have already received over £1,500,000 moro on account of the first six sales of the season up to the end of last year than was received from the corresponding sales iu 1935. If this rate is maintained, it is probable that the full season’s clip will net over £14,000,000, against £9,840,427 realised last season. In 1934-35 the clip was worth only £4,357,470. To the end of last year only six sales had been held out of a total of 27 sales for the season. A comparison of bales sold and realisations and the average price a bale for the period is as folloWs: Bales Valuo Per Bale Sold £ £ s d 1933 .. 139,716 2,376,818 16 6 0 1934 .. 78,432 752,343 9 12 0 1935 .. 134,113 1,772,183- 13 4 0 1936 .. 155,205 3,281,148 21 3 0 It has been estimated that the Australian clip this seaon will realise over £51,000,000. Therefore, if about £65,000,000 is realised for both Australian and New Zealand, the return will be tho highest since the 1928,29 total of £69,339,000, and will exceed the 1933-34 figure of £62,617,000. Sales and realisatiosn in Australia for the six months, July-December, compare as follows: — Bales Value Per Bale Sold £ ‘ £ s d 1933 .. 1,500,095 28,574,693 18 18 0 1334 .. 1,255,582 15,795,333 12 9 D 1935 .. 1,473,091 25,127,119 17 0 0 1936 .. 1,425,701 27,521,848 19 5 0 With the settlement of the trade dispute between Japan and Australia, any estimates must be rather doubtful, as under the agreement Japan will admit
SOO,OOO bales of wool from the Commonwealth during the next 18 months. However, everything points to a continuance of present levels for the remainder of this selling season.
