AUSTRALIA PREPARES AIR DEFENCES. United Press Association—Bv Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. MELBOURNE, Jan. 233. The Minister of Defence (Sir Arch dale Parkhill), referring to the Government’s decision to have forty American aeroplanes built in Melbourne, said: “As Minister of Defence I do not hesi tate to say that there is no timo to lose, and it is imperative that our defence preparations should be advanced with speed and determination.” Replying to the statement that the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation m Melbourne was a constituent part of the General Motors Corporation, Sir Archdale Parkhill said that British aircraft companies were not prepared to invest money for aeroplane construction in Australia, and that the Melbourno company was * ‘absolutely Australian. ”
