A surprising feature of the \\ ellingLou law u tennis championships has been the sensational fall of New Zealand title holders, the most remarkable being the defeat of Miss Dulcie Nicholls in a magnificent battle at Miramar on Saturday atternoou by Miss Mavis Howe, the score being o—l, 4 —6* 9 —7. On Friday, Dennis Coombe fell a victim to the Aucklander, Dewar Brown, and on Saturday afternoon Eric Roussel uud Roily Ferkins, New Zealand's doubles cnampious, went down fighting to Sturt and Edwards. Men's singles: Noel Bedford (Wellington) beat Dewar Brown (Auckland), * — o, I——6, 8 ■ -6, b—3. Women's singles: Miss Mavis Howe beat Miss Dulcie Nicholls, 6—4, 4 —6, Men’s doubles: J. Charters and D. Coombe beat N. Sturt and N. Edwards, i —5, 6—-, O—U.0 —U. Cornea's doubles: Misses D. Nicholls and J. Douthett beat Mrs. A. L. Latham and Miss M. Howe. 6 —2, B—C. doubles: D. Coombe and Miss D. Nicholls beat E. A. Roussell and Miss J. Douthett, 4—6, 6—2, 6—o.
