Five Persons Injured in Car Crash
TERRIFIC IMPACT WITH - TELEGRAPH POLE. Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, Last Night. Five people were admitted to hospital last evening as the result of a car crashing into a wooden telegraph pole on top of Elevation Hill, near Picton. The party, which was returning from the Marlborough inter-club regatta at Picton, comprised Messrs A. R. J. Morrison, driver, J. N. Morrison, H. F. Ching, B. Patchett, and a lad, Herbert Doggett, all of Blenheim. Mr A. R. J. Morrison received deep lacerations to the face and was unconscious for several hours. He also fractured his right forearm. Mr Patchett’s left knee was dislocated and he is also suffering from abrasions and shock. The other three passengers escaped with a heavy shaking and a few cuts and bruises and were allowed to return home to-day. The accident occurred through a tyre bursting causing the car to slew to the side where it collided with terrific force with the post which was knocked over to one side. Several telephone wires connecting Blenheim and Picton were severed and the car was completely wrecked. SERIOUS ACCIDENT NEAR ROTORUA. TWO PEOPLE INJURED. (Special to "Times.") ROTORUA, Last Niglit. A serious motor accident resulting in the admission of two persons to hospital occurred to-night about six miles from Rotorua. A lorry containing a large party of picnickers who had been spending the day at Ohope oeach came into collision with a car en route from Rotorua to Thornton, near Whakataue. The impact was considerable, both vehicles being badly damaged. The two injured are;— Alice Beatsou, schoolgirl, Auckland head injuries and concussion. Keith Day, a youth, Thornton, fractured arm and serious injuries.
