3-year-old Maori Boy Drowned

FELL INTO STREAM FROM ANCHORED CANOE. (Special to "Times.”) ROTORUA, Last Night. A distressing fatality occurred at Ngongotaha at 12.15 p.m. to-day when a young Maori boy, Baimona Gear, aged 3 years, lost his footing while attempting to cross tho Waiteti stream on a canoe and was drowned. At the inquest which was opened in the afternoon before Mr W. L. Richards, Coroner, the mother of the child stated that deceased in company with his sister, Violet Gear, aged 7, left home late on Sunday morning and when last seen by her they were headed in the direction of the Waiteti stream where a canoe was anchored for use as a bridge.
