Women’s Institutes

OPIKI The monthly meeting of the Opiki Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday. Mrs B. A. Norman presided over a fair attendance of members and visitors. Owing to the school vacation, a number were absent from the district, while boisterous weather conditions prevented others attending. The motto was: “Life is not so short but there is time for courtesy." Apologies were received from Mesdames W. White and G. Wilde. One new member, Mrs P. Kriven, was given a very warm welcome. Mrs G. Wilde sent in her resignation as leader of the drama circle, owing to indifferent health. A competition arranged by the president—detecting kitchen materials by sense of smell, was entered into with zest by those present. This was won by Miss Meryl Alve. The monthly competition, for the best duchess set, was judged by Mrs P. Kriven and resulted: Mrs L. T. Webb (2 entries, equal) 1, Miss D. Irwin, 3. Eight entries. Members were reminded of the Manawhenua group’s competition for the best cotton houscfrock not to cost more than 10s. If arrangements still stand as at present, the next rally will be held at Foxton on February 18. Opiki W.l.'s next meeting will be held on February 17 and the competitions are: (1) Home-made soap; (2) programme for six months. Hostesses: Mesdames Gregory, J. Cookslev, V. Claridge and W. Bond; afternoon tea, M—Z.
