TRIUMPH OF MESDAMES GAMBRILL AITD PIT CAITHLY. CHAMPIONS DEFEATED. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 20. Perfect weather prevailed to day for the second day of the New Zealand croquet championships. The greens were in excellent condition. The surprise of the day was the defeat of A. G. Ross and Mrs Watkins, holders of the Dominion doubles championship, by Mesdames Gambrill and Pitcaithly, 26—1. Results:—

I Championship Doubles. First round. —Mesdames Smith and Gilbert beat Mrs Jones and Miss Perrin, 26—19. Second round.—Mesdames Pitcaithly and Gambrill beat Mesdames Warnes and Whiblev, 26 —17; Mrs Watkins and A. G. Russ beat Miss Morgan and Mrs McLennan, 26—10; Mrs Bartlett and F. L. Hartnell beat Mesdames Frost and Moss, 26 —17; Miss Washer and A. Gibbs beat Mrs Cole and J. Tannock, 26 —12; Mrs Corbet and R. McCreath. beat Mrs Scandrett and G.
