Dominion Croquet Tournament
TRIUMPH OF MESDAMES GAMBRILL AITD PIT CAITHLY. CHAMPIONS DEFEATED. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 20. Perfect weather prevailed to day for the second day of the New Zealand croquet championships. The greens were in excellent condition. The surprise of the day was the defeat of A. G. Ross and Mrs Watkins, holders of the Dominion doubles championship, by Mesdames Gambrill and Pitcaithly, 26—1. Results:—
I Championship Doubles. First round. —Mesdames Smith and Gilbert beat Mrs Jones and Miss Perrin, 26—19. Second round.—Mesdames Pitcaithly and Gambrill beat Mesdames Warnes and Whiblev, 26 —17; Mrs Watkins and A. G. Russ beat Miss Morgan and Mrs McLennan, 26—10; Mrs Bartlett and F. L. Hartnell beat Mesdames Frost and Moss, 26 —17; Miss Washer and A. Gibbs beat Mrs Cole and J. Tannock, 26 —12; Mrs Corbet and R. McCreath. beat Mrs Scandrett and G. Hart, 26 —IS; Mesdames Smith and Gilbert beat Mrs Henderson and H. Stratton, 26—15; Mrs Hadfield and H. A. Penn beat Mrs Hannan and J. Robertson, 26—11; Mrs Palmer and A. Murray beat Mesdames Wilson and McCreath, 26—22. Third round.—Mesdames Smith and Gilbert beat Mrs Hadlield and H. PenD, 26—5; Miss Washer and A. Gibbs beat Mrs Bartlett and F. L. Hartnell, 26 18; Mesdames Gambrill and Pitcaithly beat Mrs Watkins and A. G. Ross, 26—1; Mrs Corbet and R. McCreath beat Mrs Palmer and A. Murray, 26—22. Level Singles. First round.—Mrs C.
