Feilding Pipe Band
ANNUAL MEETING. Mr D. G. Fraser presided over the eleventh annual meeting of the Feilding Caledonian Pipe Band held on Wednesday evening when thero was a good attendance. An apology for absence was received from Mr D. McKay of Apiti. The balance-sheet, presented by the treasurer (Mr A. E. Matheson)^showed a credit balance of £26 3s 4d. Receipts totalled £221 16s Bd, while the expenditure was £195 13s 4d.
In the discussion on the balancesheet, which was adopted, it was pointed out that the finances were in a healthy condition and that the band was free of debt. During the year the bandsmen had been refitted with new uniforms at a cost of £157 4s Bd. The receipts were swelled by a king carnival from which the band netted £26 Is 4d. Special mention was made ot : the work of the ladies, through whose efforts £94 7s 6d has been raised by mgleside functions. Mrs Fraser presented gifts to Mrs Kitchen and Miss Roe for their services at the ingleside functions, Mr Fraser also made gifts to Mrs Kitchen and Miss Roe for their services at the ingleside functions. Mr Fraser also made special mention of the valuable help given to the band by Mrs McMillan, wife of tho drummajor. A surprise presentation from the band was made by the president to Mr G. Dick for his help in supplying music for band functions. A motion was moved by Mr Matheson that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee that an anuuaL outing of the baud be instituted, to take tho form of a picnic and sports gathering. The motion was carried unanimously. It was decided that the band attend a church parade annually. Six new members were elected:— Messrs H. Wilson, D. Mitchell, D. H. McKay, D. McFarland, W. McKay (Apiti) and J. Cowan (Apiti). The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, -Mr D. G. Fraser (re-elected); secretary, Mr W. Cocker; treasurer, Mr A. E. Matheson (rc-eleet-ed); auditor, Mr A. J. Geary re-elect-ed); working vice-presidents, Messrs \V. McKay, and D. 11. McKay; pipemajor, Mr H. Butler (re-elected); pipesergeant, Mr G. Dick; pipe-corporal, Mr Lankshear; drum-major, Mr McMillan (re-elected); drum-sergeant, Mr Noble; drum-corporal, Mr Lynch; quarter master, Pipe McGregor; executive otii eers, the president, secretary, and treasurer, and Messrs Butler, Dick and Noble. Special votes of thanks were accorded the auditor, the ladies’ committee, Mr G. Dick, the retiring secretary (Mr Poole), who did not seek re-election, tho treasurer, Mrs Hook, for the use of the band room, and all those who had helped to further tho interests of the band. Supper followed the business of the meeting. Although it would appear that a considerable amount of money has been spent during the past year, it was pointed out that the baud would require another six uniforms and pipes this year to bring it up to a full playing A grade strength.
