Tho man arrested at Portland, Oregon, for questioning concerning the Mattson kidnapping case became enraged and shouted: “I am glad the boy was killed. I would like to see every member of the Mattson family killed." One of the men arrested several days ago is being compelled to grow a beard in order that the two older Mattson children may view him because the victim’s abductor was bearded. Almost all the suspects arrested to date have been released. Would-be Extortioner Voluntarily Surrenders THREATS AGAINST CHILD MOVIE STARS. Received Wednesday, 7.15 p.m. HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 19. David Harris Weazend, aged 47, an ex-convict, voluntarily surrendered to the police in connection with letters threatening extortion from Jane Withers and Freddie Bartholomew. He said: “I was hungry and figured it was an easy way to make money. There was no gang. I was the whole gang." A cable from Los Angeles on November 29 stated that a private bodyguard had been appointed to watch the child film star Freddy Bartholomew, because of a note threatening to kidnap him unless a payment of 50,000 dollars was made.
