Sydney Zoo Acquisition

LARGE BRAZILIAN TAPIR MELBOURNE, Jan. 6. One of the most interesting passengers in the Dutch freighter Alhena, which arrived here from Rotterdam, was a large Brazilian tapir, on his way to the Bydney Zoo, where special arrangements have been made for him to live in the manner to which ho accustomed. He was taken on board the Alhena at Rotterdam, not long after his arrival from Brazil, and during the early part of the voyage lived in a crate. Later he was released and given the run of the ship. He quickly made friends with the crew, whose liberality with extra bananas ho rewarded with breath-taking rides from end to end of the deck.
