Turning Into Bird
A STRANGE DISEASE LONDON, Dec. 26. In a London hospital a seven-year-old boy.is gradually changing into a human, bird. Already his nose has grown into the form of a bird’s beak. Already he hops like a bird instead of walking. He flaps his arms as though they were -wings. In many ways the boy is normal. He has been to school. His mental development is quite up to the average. His body is normal. The doctors call his disease * ‘ bird-like syndrome.” The cause of his obscure complaint is unknown. Various theories have been advanced pre-natal influence, infantile impression, childish obsession. A month ago the child was brought to the hospital from the little town in Surrey where he lives. He has been under abservaton ever since. Hopes for his recovery are high. The treatment prescribed is “rest and quiet.”
