Progress At Terrace End

MOVE FOR BETTER POSTAL. FACILITIES. Mr F. J.Oakley, chairman of the committee, presided at a meeting ou Tuesday night of tho Terraco End Progressive and Development Association. Mr A. M. Lascelles was welcomed by the chairman as a new member of the committee. Mr W. Buckley, of Iveith street, wrote congratulating f thc association on its efforts to provide better postal facilities for the district, lie suggested, however, that a postal pillar-box be installed to servo the north end of Fcatherstono street, Vogel, Hayden, Keith and Eata streets. There were 43 occupied dwellings and four industrial concerns in that area, the nearest pillarbox being at the Hospital store on one side, and Stoney Creek on the other, half mile each way. It was decided, ou the motion of Mr J. A. Nash, to support tho suggestion, and forward a copy of the letter to the Chief Postmaster for consideration. Advice was received from Mr J. Hodgens, M.P., that he would be pleased to forward to the Minister of Housing the association’s representations concerning the suitability, of land at Terrace End for part of the State housing scheme. He added that ho endorsed what had been said concerning tho desirability of developing in this manner the area of land in the vicinity of Liinbrick street. The Director of Housing Construction (Mr A. Tyndall) wrote stating that Air Hodgens had communicated with him in the matter, which would receive very careful consideration when the acquisition of further land for housing purposes in Palmerston North was under review.

“I had the opportunity when in Wellington this week, of looking at the plan for the Government housing scheme at West End,” Mr Nash informed the meeting. “If —the scheme of development is carried out as it appears on the plan,” he added, “it will certainly be an acquisition to Palmerston North, because it is a delightful plan.” The chairman commented that it would be nice to have a similar plan available for the tcn-acre area at Terrace End. It was decided to forward a recommendation to the Minister of Transport that tho right-of-way for traffic be given vehicles travelling on main arterial roads, and that cars emerging from side streets should stop before entering the principal highways.
