. (From Our Own Correspondent.) . On Friday evening last a variety entertainment was held in the bull in aid of funds. The hall was packed some visitors from Palmerston North being present. During the evening numerous competitions provided much fun for old and young Mr. J. J. Knight acted as judge for the baby show, the winner of a very even class being Mrs J. Pederson’s baby which received a gold broach. At a suitable interval the local chairman of the school committee, Mr. S. W. Lanksbcar, presented two silver medals to the champion swimmers of the school, Miss Etty Andersen and Master LindO Brill. Mr H. Titshall a well-known swimmer stated that the performances of those two pupils wore worthy of special merit. Thanks arc due to Messrs W. Anderson and H. Titshall for donating the medals. The winners of the competitions were as follows: —Ladies’ nail driving, Mrs Lawrence 1, Mrs Field 2; gent’s nail driving, Mr. T. Judd 1, Mr W. Gosling senr. 2; poking in the pig’s eye, Miss E. Anderson 1, Miss V. Palmer 2; finding the pig Messrs A. Durden and O. Brill a tic. The guessing competition for which a silver mounted veso was donated by Mr. j Weston Snvth was won by Mrs Gos- j ling; large box chocolates, Mr W. Gosling junr.: ping pong ladies. Miss E. Anderson: gents Mr R. Brill. Later in the evening a dance was commenced, the music being supplied
