Kiwitea flower Show
Splendid Exhibition BUT FEWER ENTRIES Owing to the long spell of dry weather there were fewer entries for the Kiwitea flower and produce show which was held on Saturday. Nevertheless, the exhibits displayed represented a splendid selection. In the open class for cut flowers only gladioli, carnations ,and hydrangeas were exhibited, Mr E. W. Haythorne, of Kimbolton, taking all the prizes. Competition was more representative in amateur cut flower section. The points prize for which was annexed by Mrs Sowerby with a total of 45 points. Mrs Haythorne came second with 26 points. The two shields for competition within tho parish of Kiwitea were on view, that for the schools was won by Valley road school which has held it since it was first presented in 1926. Glasses A and B (cut flowers) were judged by Mr Shailer, of Palmerston North; classes D ‘‘and E (fruit and vegetables), by Mr Young, of the Kiwitea Nurseries; classes C and H (decorative floral work and needlework), by Mrs Barltrop; class F (cookery), by Mrs Eevington Jones;- and classes G ahd J (photography and art, and children’s work), by Miss Spain, of Pcilding.
