CRICKET
GOVBKNING BODY MEETS. The regular meeting of the Management Committee of the Manawatu Cricket Association was held last evening when there were present Messrs M. A. Ongley (in the chair), W. P. Anderson, G. Kells, H. von Sturmer, W. N. Huntington, N. Gallichan, F. S. C. Hubbard and A. E. K. Black (secretary) . The Auckland Association wrote thanking the local association for the hospitable time furnished its visiting team while in Palmerston North. The All Saints’ Club wrote requesting the registration of J. Mason and D. Bamberry.—Agreed to. The Technical School wrote making application for the use of the sportsground on March .7, the occasion on which the annual school sports gathering would be hold. The Waikato Association wired inviting N. Gallichan to participate in the match versus the Australians at Hamilton on March 7 and S, such having iby arrangement been converted into a North Island eleven versus Australia. Gallichan has notified his preparedness to make the trip Hawke Cup. Congratulatory messages were received by the association on its eleven proving successful in its Hawke Cup mission from the Auckland and Hawke’s Bay associations and from Mr W. G. Miller, Manawatu delegate to the New Zealand Cricket Council, Grant (Wellington), and Hope, former Manawatu representatives, Bryce, New Zealand selector, Logan (Wairarapa) and others. The New Zealand Council wired advising that Marlborough had been allotted the next match for the Hawke, Cup, providing they play early in March. The secretary reported that he had written Marlborough on the matter, the southern body to wire its intentions immediately. ... Team Congratulated. Persona*! congratulations were extended Mr Ongley and the team members on their emerging triumphant from their Hawke Cup game, the speaker adding that cricket locally would benefit as a direct result. Congratulations were also extended Gallichan and Diederich on the parts they had played toward the successful outcome, the former in the batting department and the latter with the ball. In returning thanks Mr Ongley mentioned that the team had not been over optimistic on leaving on their mission, yet had never lost heart. The game had been fought out in the best of spirits. The Wanganui players had proved to be' the best of sports even when matters were running against them. , General. Votes of thanks were extendol Messrs Williams and Hamilton for the, use of their cars during the visit oi the Auckland Plunkefc Shield team.
