FIVE-ROOMED HOUSE DESTROYED BY FIRE
OUTBREAK IN COLLEGE STREET. Tiro destroyed a five-roomed house and contents at 139 College Street, Palmerston North, about 7.45 on Saturday evening. The dwelling was owned and occupied by Mr, P. H. Lcyland and family all of whom were absent from home at the time of the outbreak. The last person on the premises was a son who left shortly before 7.30 with everything apparently safe. Tho outbreak was discovered by a, neighbour and so guickly did the flames spread that the whole house was ablaze before the brigade had a chance to cope with the situation. The building was insured for £6OO and tho furniture is also covered, but the amount of the policy was not’ ascertainable yesterday. Bedroom Afire At Longbum Hotel. Shortly after 6.30 on Saturday evening an incipient outbreak of fire was discovered in a bedroom of the Longbum hotel. Tho blaze was quickly suppressed and tho damage is reported to be merely of a minor nature.
