BOWLING

COUNTRY CLUBS DEFEAT VICTORIANS. Yesterday afternoon the WellingtonNew Plymouth express bore to Palmerston North the touring Victorian bowlers. Tho team comprises twentytwo players with Mr. W. Lyon in charge. Five ladies also accompany tho party. Luncheon was partaken of at the Grand hotel after which the players -were motored to the Palmerston North Bowling Green. In a short happy speech Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., president of the Manawatu Bowling Centre, after apologising for the absence of the Mayor (Mr A; J. Graham), extended a hearty welcome to the visitors. He gave a short outline of the arrangements made for their entertainment. He hoped they would thoroughly enjoy their stay in Palmerston North and asked Mr W. Lyons, manager of the Victorian team, to accept a badge of the Manawatu Centre as a memento of the occasion. At tho president’s call three hearty cheers were then given for the visitors. Mr Lyons suitably replied and calling on the teams’ conductor, the Victorians then sang their happy little bowling ditty. Details of the games were as follows the Victorians being mentioned first: — H. M. Lcggo, Whalley, Roy, Creeth (s) 25, beat Foxton and Otaki — Satherley, Barr, Walton, A. Smith (s) 13. Kingsbury, T. M. Davie, Gaylard. Newham (s) 11, lost to Dannevirke — Roberts, McKinnon, Rankin, Clarke (s) 28. Hindle, Pilkington, Ferguson. Main (s) 18 beat Levin and Eketahuna— Gooding, Meads, Bull, Clements (s) 17. Flo rant, Downton, Barnett, Wright (s) 25 beat Moore, Bartholomew, Herdman (s) 18. H. Lcggo, A. H. Davie. Lyons, Bayly (s) 9 lost to Woodville —Foot, Mules, Wardrop, Pickering (s) 24. Totals: Victorians 88. Manawatu Clubs 100. The remaining visitors were given a fx-iendly game with a number of Palmerston North players. All the Victorians were loud in their praise of the hospitality shown, and the eexeilent order of the green.
