We are glad to be able to state that the question of the railway junction may be regarded as definitely settled. The Mayor, Mr G. M. Snelson, last evening received a telegram from Mr D. H. Macarthur, M.H.R., to the effect that the Minister of Public Works had assured him that the junction of the Gorge line would be at Palmerston. Mr Macarthur is deserving of the best thanks of the electors for the manner in which he has worked on this question and which has conclusively proved his statement during the election that he would not view large questions from a
narrow local standpoint. Throughout this matter he must have been perfectly aware that the Feilding portion of his constituency would not approve of his action, but he has risked their displeasure and preferred to study the interests of the whole district and of the colony generally. The independent course he his pursued cannot but common him to those of his constituents who can appreciate straightforwardness and honesty of purpose.
