MANAWATU RACING CLUB.

TO THE EDITOB. MR, — Whilst thanking you for the space afforded me m your issue of last night, I would once more feel grateful if you could by any means insert the following. You rightly infer when you say that I feel considerably aggrieved, and I trust you will extend your indulgence to the utmost under the circumstances until the matter is fully explained. Owing to the action of five vindictive individuals lam placed m the posi* tion of one who must have perpe* trated some crime, and the present action was taken by the committee of five to Bave me from further t-oable. The residents of this district will understand the position of affairs, but I ask how will it be with these m the cities and centres Q? population, where the club's pro* grammes are posted, up with my name on them? What construction oan be placed oh the fact that the secretary of the M.H.C has been dismissed on the eve of nominations being received ? It is a cruel, das* tardly, cowardly, underhand proceeding. Why was not the matter dealt with before the programmes were issued ? If there is law m the land it should reach men capa« ble of acting as the notable five have acted. The following document purports to contain all the reasons assigned, for the necessity of dispensing with my services, aad which, of coarse, is private information :— Palmerston North, O«t 27th, 1884. Mr T. R. Walton, Dear Sir. — I am instructed to in* form you that at a committee meeting of the M.R.C. held on the 25th inst.,| the following resolution was carried :— . That your services as secretary. Br e no longer required, and that you w ill be paid three months' salary m "«u of notice as per tarms of agreement, . „—. •.:..-. . __^ The committee of the M.R.C, do not think sufficient attention has been paid to the collection of sub" scriptions, and to your duties generally as secretary, and as committee',; office bearers and stewards are per* sonally responsible for the funds .wherewith to meet the engagements at the forthcoming race meeting, it is deemed necessary to obtain the services of a secretary who will take more interest m racing matters. A cheque for. salary as above stated will be paid on your handing over all books,, papers, &c, the property of the club. Yoursjjtruly, ; James Kino, Chairman. The above document will repay a careful perusal by your readers. The " Dear Sir " and'the " Yours truly," are suggestive of the disciple, who hung himself, Let us hope that his representative of the 19th Century will- not do likewise. The document is likewise inconsistent, the resolution was neither proposed or seconded, therefore it could not be carried, it is null and void. That my services are no longer required is simply ab» surd talk ; the ball is at my feet, and there it will remain, until I get ample aati faqtiou and redress. The Committee never charged me with insufficient attention to the business of the Club, nor laxity m collecting subscriptions, and duties generally. But the notable five do, m direct opposition to. the feeling of the other six, who, I.trusfc, are honest- j opinioned men. The action of the five kuowables |s against the feeling of ihe members, to whom they must look for aid to help them out of the scrape. I have already received expressions of sympathy from a majority of the members. And I also append herewith, full evidence of my ability ! as Secretary of f .he Club,, which will prove to the members, public, and colony at large, that the present charges are trumped up and roali* ciously false. The legitimate reason for the action oE the five wissaores I will divulge further- on.. Another inoqnsistenoy. What guarantee can the five celebrities give, that my successor will take more interest and fulfil the duties more successfully ? As matters stood, can auy further guarantee be required, than the fact that I have carried out three race meetings, more successfully that any previous occupant of the position has done, or m fact, other secretaries on the coast. The race meetings held during my Secretaryship, have proved^ successes both financially, and m management. 1 bave no desire to be egotistical, but my case is a hard one, The future working of the Club depends on m.y handing oyer the books and papers ; on. this event tak* ing place depends my cheque for three months salary, but suppose we do not come to terms, how then ? Will the five invinciblee find a legal proposition, iegajly nut, legally carried, and, legally minuted. It is not wise to count ducl^s before they are hatched. I a,m neither a newly hatched duck, nor goose. Let the aspirant to the unvaoated Secretaryship, prepare for the worst. A glaring inconsistency must exist somewhere, when the following is read m conjunction, with: the charges brought against me, by tae social five. J : T. fi.. Walton, [We have been unavoidably compelled to hold over the remainder of Mr Walton's letter until to* morroirJ . i,
