FOXTON RACING CLUB.
The programme of tha.Hummer meoting of the Foxten tiacing Club appears m this issue. By compari* sou with that of last year it will be seen that the Club has improved the programme m many respects, not the least important of which has been the raising of the stakes m sex veral events. Alluding to the pro* gramme our Foxton contemporary says : — " A horse which is unsuccesss fal for the "big money" has a chance to pick up 40 soys m the Stewards' Stakes Handicap; or if his chances are better for a short fast race, he can go for the Plying Handicap of 30 soys, Tbe latter event has been substituted for the District Eace, the stewards coming to the conclusion that there was not sufficient inducement to retain that item on the programme. It will be observed that the second horse m four of the events will receive some* •thing out of the stakes, which should act as an inducement to owners to enter, and should also be a guarantee that the second place will beiraced for. In the rules acd regulations the stewards have provided that all entries with the nomination! money enclosed, must be m the hands of the Secretary at the stated time, and that post marks will not be received. This rule is gradually being adopted by the Clubs m self defence against those owners who send m their .nominations and let the Club trust to luck whether they get paid or not. The rule exists m the Wangauni and Eangitikei programmes, and it is a matter for regret that tbe Pal* merston Club has not also adopted . the same regulation. Speaking generally the Foxton Club have is-, sued a very taking programme, and it is to be hoped that that success which it deserves will attend the j efforts of the Club to promote good ! racing m the district. At the previous meeting of the committee, Mr J. 0. Evett was appointed handicapper to the club, and this fact alone should pruve a tower of streifgth. Like Caesar's wife, a han* dicapper should be above snspicibD, and this reputation Mr Evett has gained, as from all quarters his sera vices are being requested m that capacity." ...... : . :
