A MANIAC AT LARGE.

Gibson, the lunatic, has been at large for three weeks, and the Asylum attendants were out for a fortnight searching for the man, but coula hear of no due.' ; Many settlers' houses ha re been entered and food taken, whilst m two oirei a gun had been stolen but no clue could be found to the perpetrator, who was never seen. Since Monday two twoconßtables, have been out, being accompanied by a man named Eusch and a settler named Palmer. Tbey scoured the bush and (he constables had to re« turn to town this morning to attend the District Court. Bnsch then appears to have followed up the cent, and at 6.30 o'clock a settler m the Wairoa Gb'ge/ named Kerr, heard the report of a gun, and on looking out saw Busch staggers ingv Busch said that Gibson had fired at him frem behind a fence. The telegram first received says that Busch bad been attended by Dr Satchell, who re« pert 3 that tbe man's injuries consist of gunshot wounds m the lungs, face, and *rm. .The settlers turned out witbjguns to hunt down;the lunatic, but fear« are entertained that others may be shut. ; : October 17. A ttrict watch is now being kept, and no doubt he will shortly he captuied. It ii rumored that Busch has died from his wound, but this needs confirmation.
