The Daily Times. THE OLDEST MANA WATU JOURNAL ESTABLISHED 1875. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18, 1884
Theee candidates have been noini« nated for the vacanfe seat on the Education Board, viz Messrs E. S. Thynne, V. Monrad, and J. H. Fry. The two first named "a re men" wlib woula do excellent service on the Board, and it is to be regretted- that both cannot obtain seats on this occasion. It is also a matter *br- re* gret that the fact of two candidates being nominated at this end of the district will strengthen Mr Fry's chances, Hadjthere been any candidates from the northern portion Mr Fry would undoubtedly be " Snuffedout" as heretofore, but tinder ithe circumstances it is possible he will slip m. In the interests of the lower portion of the district it is> to be hoped that Mr Monrad or Mr Tbynne will arrange to retire, and await a future opportunity. Mr Fry, it is certain, will never|be more than a dummy at the Board, and he will not be capable of paying that attenj 1 tion to the wants of country schdjols which is -desirable. -■ ;•
