SMALLPOX AND INOCULATION
TO THE EDITOR. . Sir.— At the present time when there is so winch fear " entertatnert m th'e colonies; concerning the spread of smallpox, it might not be amiss to pay a little attention 1 to what tome some of the most eminent German , English, and French pay.: sicians have to say' about- the discovery; of Dr. Jenner,; the vaccination. ; ; A very remarkable and bisrhly interesting lecture was delivered m Germany by one of the greatest physicians oT that country oxi the subject of Vaccination. The doctor proves from his own -observations and those of ; otber physicians, that vaccination, as if is generally practiced, especially the transmission'of vaccine from one child to another,;!* doing /earful mischief. The Doctor in" his lecture charges the authorities who have made r ;vaccination compulsory,- asr -guilty of a> great crime. He brings forward many proofs, to the : effect, that many ; thousands" iiave been poisoned by the inoculation, and that vaccination is really no' preservative against smallpox at a11., : Sir, as -this appears to me a .very important subject to consider,' t shall 1 take the trouble to translate the lecture from the. original into English and deliver it m Palmeifstori'* arid perhaps: cat other places WhVn the : translation . is ready; I shall announce the^tinTeanS place for the delivery of the i lectui-e. In^ brderto secure as ] large' an audience^ as possible, there will be no charge^ for admission, only a small collection will be 1 taken to ; defray expenses. Tpu are sware, Sir, that there are a' great niany'people against vaccination m Ex3gland:no.\v-rr.lam, &c., ! " Christopher^ Gaustad, ~ ' Lutheran Minister.
