CRIMINAL LIBEL.
DTJNEDIN, LAST Night. . The trial of Ofhos, Allen, for criminal libel concerning J. M. Maseey, the Town Clerk, lasted all day. The: libel consisted iri a' statement sent to the Town Council that Mass*; had invited- Allen to burn down the premises in which both wert jointly interested, fpr the purpose of obtaining the insurance., 'thereon. The evidence was of an extraordinary character, A strong point made for. the defence, was'lhit a civil action should have been brought. If ter about an I ovu's reti 'ement, the ibrought in a verdict of " Not guiltj ; jastification i,ot proved.'* His Honor ; "Then you a^y it is no libel ?' Foreman : »Np libel.";
