STEVENS AND GORTON'S STOCK SALE.

This enterprising firm of nuctioneers, and cattle salesmen, held what was, perhaps, the most successful sale of stock, at the Borough Yards on Wednesday, f hat has tver be>;-n held m the district. The ■veather wan beautiful, and the attendance good, particularly of genuine buyers, and dealers. There was something like 150 head of cattle of all clpstes yarded, and nearly all wert sold at prices wMch still shovrs an upward teade»ey. There was only one pew of sheep yarJed, about 45 m number, and these were sold at 10s pT head. The auctioneer explained that on account of the swollen state of the rivers, he had been disappointed of a large number of fat sheep. Nine head beef, was the first lot offered, and were knocked down at £7 17s 6d per head ; 2 year-old steera realised £4 per head ; 18 months old, mixed sexes sold at £2 15s; 16 two year-old speyed heifers passed m at £3 ; an ther pew of beef realised £8 per head; 24 two year-old steers passed m at £3 15s per head. Two year-olds mixed, fetched £3 12i 6d ; cow and calf sold at prices ranging from £4 5s to £7 ; milcb cows, fetched from £5 to £6 ; yearling steers £2 17s 6d per head. Horses — A few horses of different classes were offered, but none were sold, the reserve prices not being reached. They were bought m at prices varying from £6 up to £9, and it appears evident from this, that the price of horse-flesh is going up.
