" This Committee's report was a follows; :— "In accordance with the Board's resolu- j tion your Committee have to report' that they have carefully investigated the state of the Board's finances;, and considered m de- r tail the reductions necessary m the several' branches, of the Board's service, witlia view of giving effect to the instructions of the Government m reference to the rediictiori of | 10s per annum ~6n" the average annual attendance. • Taking- /the' average of the last six months^ your- -ComTnittee finds, that} the reduction . fe» this Board ariiounts to* £1500 per annum, and m ovdec. to meet this they propose as follows. :7^lst.. That the Board should adopt an. entirely new scale of salaries, now submitted for, approval, : which, they recommend on th^ following grounds : —(a) That the present scale overlaps, Land is m that respect .somewhat unworkable ; (b) That, the reduction being imperative, the present is' the most opportune time; for. changing the seßte j (c) Because" under the new scale now proposed the reduction wrill pre3s far .less -severely upon teachers with small incomes than -upon those with large one ;(d) Because the hewscale is a^graduated onej and- works evenly and Without any overlaps, and your Committee have carefully, considered it, item by itemy as applied to the several schop.ls.n-^Snd. That the salaries of the Head Master and the Second Maste'r= at the Boys' Dis.trict; High School,: Wanganui^; be reduced respectively by £40 arid £20 per annum, and that of the Head Mistress of the Girlis' School by £20. per anHum.— 3rd. That the salaries of the Assistant Teactiers : be reduced from £75 to £70 per ankin.-4. That the tees for instructing pupil teachers be reduced from £10 per annum for/the fii'st; pupil teacher to £7 : l08. per annu'mV the allowance, fax ■ =the othi^r pupili teachers to remain as before.-^-5. That a uniform reduction of 10 per cent, be piade : on the salaries of : piipil teaohera.— 6. That a reduction of 25 per- cent be , made on -Teachers' classification : boniises.— 7. -,;That the .capitation' grant to Committees be reduced to pne-half' the present scale.— B. That -the salaries of the Inspector' and Secretary be reduced respectively from £403 and:£36o to £370 and £280 per annum.
