NO, DEAR, IT IS NOT TRUE !

Under the heading of "Is it True?" our Foxton contemporary has th,e following :— Very many circumstances hare occurred winch have weakened the regard felt, by the settlers of Sandon, Carnarvon, and Foxlon for the Manawatu Highways Board, and have generated a strong desire on the part of thqse districts, tft separate from the parent, body. It is now reported to us on very good authonity that the Board intends to, show its affection for its runaway children by collecting at the earliest possible moment m the, distriots named the rate receatly struck. W^e are not pi'epared to vouch for the truth of the rumor, but it is stated to us that the Collector ha 9 been requested to visit Sjandon. Carnarvon, and Foxtqn immediately, and collect all the- money passible also, to sue defaulters at the earliest moment allowed by law. We are. pleased to be able to ease tlie anxiety of our contemporary by informing it that there ig not a particle of truth m the rutnor, which is, from first to las.t, § puna invention. Last 3'ear there were just four weeks between tlie .issue of the notice and the da:e of collection ; this year five have been allowed, and the date will extend 10 a later day than heretofore, so tUafc it will be seen that instead oE stealing a march upo.u the southern wards?, greater latitude lias been allowed.
