The Tariff Committee representatives at Washington propose to reduce the duty on wool to 45 per cent, ad valorem. On Friday night, April 23* about eight o'clock, the Rev. Isaac McKallock, son of Mayor McEallock, of this city, enteredrthe Chronicle office and attacked Charles Do Young, the senior proprietor, pistol m hand, and shot him dead. iYoung was circulating a pamphlet containing an account of McKallock's trials for adultery, m Boston m ; 1857, a copy of which fell into McZallock's hands. The end of this unfortunate man was a sad commentary of the reckless style of American journalism. While the body was being taken from, the offi.ce to the morgue a large mob of people forgot so far common decency as to give clieersfor lie Kallock, and hooting! for the victim. The coro-. ner's jury returned a verdict of murder against McKalloch.
