The Governor's, Speech. — In order to make room for the Governor's Speech we hay« been compelled to hold over a quantity of local matter. Catholic Chuboh. — We hare been asked to remind the members of the Catholic Church that Mass will be celebrated to-morrow morning m St Patrick's Church at eight o'clock, and at Ashurst at eleven. The Aw-A. Httri Estatb.— From a ,tel«gram i-«ceived from town, we learn that the Awa Hui'i Estate has been disposed of to Mr Wallace for £sioo, tmT'purobaser being A. H. Miles, Esq. T»wn Improvements. — Amongst the building operations, now going on so extensively m the borough, we notice, amongst others, the important additions jtNt made by Mr Coleman, which will render his premises complete m every respect, Thb Sale at Mr. Grammar's. — We are pleased to learn that the sale held by Mr. Snelson at Mr. Grammar's farm on Thursday w4» a most satisfactory ose, for although the prices realised were not very high, sTfll they were of sucH a figure as fully satisfied the seller, beside which every lot was disposed of. Not the Cold .Watb^bCiteb.—According to, a telegram received from the: Press Association," a curious case of one Maori roasting another was heard before the Resident Magistrate at Auckland t on -Wednesday moriiingl Herika," a' fdlldwer of Te Whiti, and a sort of minor prophet. and missionary combined, was charged with assaulting one Heriona, old, blind, and weak' minded. The evidence showed..- that thef old man was ill, and the prisoner, who. was consulted as a kind of medicine man, declared that he was "possessed of a devil. To cure him b,e had a Maori oopper made and. heated, and lined with green leaves m the' most approved .fashion, and then laid Heriona m the copper., The old' gentleman tried to wriggle 'away\' 'and then iHerika tied his hands and feet, and as this was not satisfactory he sat on the poor man to keep him well' down on the stones. Naturally the old fellow cried out, when Herika declared that was the devil crying to get out of his body. At last the bystanders interfered, and rescued Heriona, but not before he had been -dreadfully burned ; m fact a certain part of his body was described as thoroughly cooked.' The case' was remanded to allow the'old man to he examined by a medical man. ;
