A CONTRADICTION.

Iw yesterday's issue of our Foxton contemporary, Mr. Ernest S. Thynne publishes a long letter m reply to the memo, of the Cpunty Chairman re the Estimates. It is not our intention to express an opinion as to which of thetwohave got right on their side, but we do most em phatically take exception to the following paragraph m Mr. Thynne's letter : — He (of course without consideration) made a public attßck on mai officially when it was probable it wpnid be reported m the three County pnpers, knowing that my reply could only appear m one, t.h us affording a good instauce of the odds (2 to 1) under which he elects to battle with his oppo..nents. : It would have been far. more satisfactory had Mr. Ernest S. Thynne been a little more explicit, and stated why it was that his reply could only appear m one paper. Mr. Thynne is not quite so verdant em to imagine that- any journal dare publish a document attacking a person, and refuser the right of reply ; beside whi"h Mr, Ernest 8. Thynne will he pleased to remember that only two papers so far have published the County Chairman's memorandum, both of which published-Mri Thynne's proteit or- attack upon Mr.. Macarthur. If Mr. Thynne wishes to insinuate that the columns of this paper would be closed to his reply, .we give'the insinuation a flat'contrash'ctiori, and consequently can come to no other conclusion than that he was making a whining and miserable ad misericordiam appeal for sympathy upon "the "grounds which which were as false as they were frivolous- There would be little sympathy for a patient .jjpint blank.refused to see a doctor, and still grumbled about not having medical attendance. We need not pur--sue the: si mile further,; but "recommend its, consideration to. Mr. E, S. Thynne, as a panacea for his inconsistency.
