A DISGRACEFUL OUTRAGE.

We have heard with very great digust that the band of midnight revellers which paraded the town on New Year's morning wero not satisfied with amusing themselves without the destruction of private property. We learn that Mr. WaIiDEOKAVe was not only treated with indignity by the crowd which assembled before his house, .but the; mob actually smashed his windows, destroyed Ins flower garden, tore down his gate, and committed other wanton injuries to tlje premises, beside nearly frightening the life out of the female members, pf the family by the volleys of stones, thrown upon the roof and through the windows. Practical Jokes are generally one?sided t and seldom a .source of amus.enjont to to, any -but *t.he perpetrators ; still at holiday time few would object to make allowances for an excess of jolfing even when the laugh is at one's own expense, but certainly when practical joking de« generates into wilful destruction, and amusement for some cannot be bought save at the expense of malicious injury to others, it is time it was put down with a strong hand. We ourselves were instrumental upon a former occasion of preventing a similar- outrage qpon the same gentleman, as we forluuatoly arrived on the scene when opera - tioris were about to commence, and threatened to hand the names ovei' to police. The threat had the desired ivjffect, and it is a pity some' respectable oitizen was not present on. Wednesday night to do likewise. Mr. Waldßt grave has placed the matter in the hands of the police, a'ud we understand informations were sworn yesterday; against the principal delinquents, Tfken we hope such a salutary lesson will be tangh^tho- perpetrators of the outrage as will effectually curb an exuberance of spirits with such a dangerous terdcncy, and prevent the good name of the town fron> being disgraced by such an cxliibitiou Q&YifliUcJtive duatrtyjtwq,
