THE* ACCEPTANCE OF TBNDBB.S, When" the reading of the correspondence had been concluded, the Chairman said that before opening any of the tenders called for, he thought it would be advisable that the Board should know exactly what were the extent of its liabilities, and with a view of becoming aware of their exact position, he thought it would be well to adjourn until half-past one, for that purpose. The suggestion was acted upon, and the Board consequently adjourned. \ On resuming, it was found that the liabilities were close upon £1000, and. the majority of the Board were of opinion that it would not be wise to accept any further ■ cont racts. A very hot discussion ensued upon the question, the Chairman and Mr. Bruce being against, and Messrs. Farmer and M'Pherson advocating the executing of certain necessary worksl Finally it was agreed that tenders for. works on Wilson's Line, and also m the Foxton ward, amounting- m all to about £75, be accepted. Mr. Beard stated that he and others had been settled there for the last seven years, and as the Board took their rates they should certainly do something m the way of convenience.
