ROMANCE ABOUT THE LATE PRINCE

Writing 1 from London m the K&w Yurk Herald, Grace Greenwood, the weH-inown authoress, says ;— "A etrange rumor has been for some time afloat m London, and now I find it given with considerable circumstantiality, if not substantiation, m tht Parfs IFiyaro. It is no less, "thirn the stateinßht that the late Prince Imperial left a|, wife — a beautiful young-English gw-1, w^hom he had privately married, and had installed with her baby and nurse m a retired furnished house m Bath. It is stated tint when about to depart for Africa he placed his wife and child . under the special care of a Catholic piiest, to whom he was only know v' as an officer m the English artillery, and to whom he said" that "grave family reasons hindered him from -applying to any other friend, and -even from reveai- , ing his real name. The priest frequently visited his charge, and happened to be present when " the poor young woman received the news of thedeath of the Prince Imperial, at which she fainted. From this, aud her great distress afterwards, he was led to divine her secret, and his suspicious were coufi^med by hearing that " the lady actually vent to Chiselhnrst at once, and made desperate but vain efforts to obtain an intcm&v with the Empress.
