Considerable amusement was created on Saturday morning ty the appearance, of* a Maoi*j Chief on the Railway Station, who' had been got up with white bell-toppef black-kids, and otherwise regardless of expense. Across his breast, from shoulder to hip hyng a brcyid bjack silk scarf with tassels dangling at the ends. The Native was the cynosure of all eyes, and many were the remarks made about him. One enthusiastic admirer of the Still-born Ministry thought he- would have a dig at the. late. Premier, and suggested that the sable stranger was m mourning for Sir George Grey, Th\s sally created much laughter at the expense of the Liberals present, bufthe tune was quickly changed when one of their number promptly replied, " Oh dear, no 5 he is on the other side, for don't jou see he hears the Hall mark of the piratical crew who have run up the 'black 4ag.'
