There was a large attendance, thus evincing the interest taken m the matter by the residents generally. . ; Mr. D. H. Dr. Johnston seconded the motion which, on being put to the meeting, was carried, unanimously. The Chairman explained that the object of calling the meeting so early, was to arrange about tlio day on which the sports should be hold. He thought that Boxing Day would be the most favorable time. They had hitherto always held them on that day, and had therefore established a kind of right to it. He mentioned this as there was a large amount of rivalry m other districts. He thought it would be desirable to appoint a large committee, as there were many willing to assist, who were unable to he present that evening. Mr. H. Worsfold proposed — "That the Feilding Christmas Sports be held on Boxing Day, 1879." Mr. Daw seconded the resolution, which was carried. Mr. Capper proposed, and Mr. H. L. Sherwill seconded — "That a committee be appointed to consist of the following -.—Messrs. Halcombe, Macarthur, Bray, Skerwill, Dr. Johnston, Callanan, Logan, Worsfold, Jackson, Capper, Brown, Kirton, Daw, Btlderbeck, Paden, Price, P. Bartholomew, Booth, Eeading, W. Bailey, Chamberlain, Haybittie, Higstfn,. DruraraoncJ, Maysmor, Beatlie, Foster, Haivling, Todd, C. Eoe, Kempthorn, Roe, (jun.), Cart-hew, W. D. Nicholas, C. Nicholas, Pope, Pearson, Eowley, F. Lifchbridge, G-. Bartholomew, W. Whisker, J. C. Thompson, London, H. Lefchbudge, Blackmore, and Rutherford, with power to add to their number. — Carried. Mr. Sherwill was elected Secretary, and Mr. Callanan, Treasurer. The first meeting of the general committee was appointed to be held this evening. A vote of thanks tothe Chair terminated the proceedings.
